Transportation

• LaGuardia Airport | East Elmhurst, Queens | Ongoing
  • LGA is undergoing an $8 billion transformation to a single, structurally unified main terminal with better transportation access and first-class passenger amenities—the first complete rebuild of a US airport in over 25 years. In June 2022, Delta Air Lines opened the doors to the new Terminal C, featuring modern design elements, art installations by local New York artists, five baggage claim carousels and a new concourse with 10 gates. All remaining construction is slated for completion in 2024. LaGuardia Airport's Terminal B was aptly named the best new airport terminal in the world, based on a global customer survey by the international transport rating organization Skytrax. 
• John F. Kennedy International Airport | Jamaica, Queens | Ongoing
  • In December 2022, JFK unveiled the newly revitalized Terminal 8, developed by American Airlines and British Airways, offering travelers new premium lounges, enhanced baggage systems, premium check-in space and more to be discovered. The $9.5 billion international Terminal One is expected to open in 2026, including a complete redesign of the airport's roadways, expansion of parking lots and more.
• Newark Liberty International Airport | New York City Metropolitan Area | Ongoing
  • On January 12, Newark Liberty International Airport debuted the updated $2.7 billion Terminal A, offering 33 new gates directly connected to a multilevel parking facility. EWR is also working toward a new 2.5-mile elevated guideway train system, which will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and ease traffic congestion.
• Grand Central Madison LIRR Station | Midtown Manhattan | January 2023
  • The MTA now welcomes passengers to Grand Central Madison, a new Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) station below the historic Grand Central Terminal. Full service into the terminal began running on January 25, allowing LIRR to reach the east side of Manhattan for the first time.
• Beluga24 Zero-Emission Ferry | Brooklyn & Manhattan | Spring 2024
  • This first-of-its-kind watercraft will usher in a new era of cleaner and more efficient marine transportation. The energy-efficient vessel will operate as part of the New York Water Taxi, running on the Hudson River between Brooklyn and Manhattan, with capacity for up to 147 passengers per ride and 28 bicycles.

• High Line Moynihan Connector | Midtown Manhattan | June 2023
  • The High Line Moynihan Connector Civic Project aims to create an ADA-accessible pathway that will connect the High Line to a publicly accessible space at Manhattan West. The $50 million project will feature two bridges extending to the Tenth Avenue terminus of the High Line, offering safe and scenic pedestrian access to Moynihan Train Hall.
• Gansevoort Peninsula | Meatpacking District, Manhattan | Summer 2023
  • Gansevoort Peninsula will be Manhattan's first public beach, expected to open in summer 2023. Located on the shores of the Hudson River near Chelsea and the Meatpacking District, the beach will provide a relaxing area for sunbathing and leisure activities. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, the beach will also feature a large sports field, picnic tables and walking paths for visitors to enjoy.
• Rockefeller Center Revitalization | Midtown Manhattan | 2023
  • Rockefeller Center is redefining the iconic area, continuing to welcome new restaurants including the recently opened Five Acres; an enhanced experience at Top of the Rock including new ride, Lunch Atop a Skyscraper, and features including the Sky Lift; the return of Flipper's Roller Boogie Palace; new shops; and the development of a Little Nell Hotel. The location will also be reopening 610 Loft & Garden and Radio Park, atop Radio City Music Hall, just in time for the spring/summer season.
    
    
• Marsha P. Johnson State Park | Williamsburg, Brooklyn | 2023
  • In February 2022, East River State Park was renamed in honor of Marsha P. Johnson, a transgender woman of color who was a pioneer of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement and a central figure in the Stonewall The design for a new gateway for the park was recently announced, with construction scheduled for completion in 2023.
• Bronx Point | South Bronx | 2023/2024
  • Bronx Point is a 530,000-square-foot mixed-use development in the South Bronx, opening in phases with housing, retail, public space, and cultural programming including the soon-to-open Universal Hip Hop Museum in Q3/Q4 2024.

• Hudson River Park's Pier 97 | Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan | Spring 2024
  • In 2022, construction began on the reimagination of Hudson River Park's northernmost concrete pier (at West 57th Street). The plans call for an elevated belvedere with river views, food concession, a playground, a woodland walk and sunbathing lawn, together altering the Hell's Kitchen recreational landscape.
• New York City Football Club Stadium | Willets Point, Queens | 2027
  • Major League Soccer's New York City Football Club (NYCFC) will build the City's first professional soccer stadium, with 25,000 seats. The Willets Point stadium will be part of a larger mixed-use development including a 250-room hotel, affordable housing, a school, public space, retail and more.
• TSX Broadway | Times Square, Manhattan | Ongoing
  • TSX Broadway, a 550,000-square-foot hotel, theater, dining, and retail tower, has already taken center stage with the unveiling of its 18,000-square-foot podium LED screen where visitors and locals alike can upload 15-second videos casting over Times Square.

  • Launched in 2022, NYC Hotel Week is New York City Tourism + Conventions' newest signature program. NYC Hotel will return in 2024 offering a 24% discount (a play on the calendar year) off the standard room rate at some of the City's finest hotels across all five boroughs during the winter season.
• Moxy Williamsburg | Williamsburg, Brooklyn | March 2023
  • Moxy Williamsburg features 216 rooms and includes a festive restaurant serving Israeli and Levantine fare, a cocktail bar, an all-day café, a serene garden courtyard and an indoor/outdoor rooftop bar with breathtaking views of the Williamsburg Bridge and the city skyline.
• The FIDI | Lower Manhattan | March 2023
  • This 131-room boutique hotel is a new addition to Lower Manhattan. The property features modern design elements including a vibrant, multicolored Piet Mondrian–inspired glass facade, bespoke decor inspired by the City's art scene and more.
• The Tillary | Downtown Brooklyn | March 2023
  • The Tillary reopened its 174 rooms in March, offering views of the Brooklyn Bridge and city skyline, near many of the borough's attractions and hotspots including Barclays Center, DUMBO, the Brooklyn Bridge and more.

• The Gansevoort | Meatpacking District, Manhattan | April 2023
  • The Gansevoort recently unveiled a multimillion-dollar, top-to-bottom renovation, nearly two decades after the hotel opened its doors in the Meatpacking District. The renovated property now includes a new lobby, rooms, check-in, corridors, rooftop and four lounge spaces along with three new food and beverage concepts debuting this fall.
• Hotel AKA NoMad | Nomad, Manhattan | May 2023
  • Formerly known as The Roger New York, this new boutique hotel on Madison Avenue has been reimagined and elevated to luxury accommodations by architect and designer Piero Lissoni. Comprising 178 accommodations, the new property includes a seasonal, private outdoor cinema, wine bar, luxurious amenities and more.
• Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel | Harlem, Manhattan | Summer 2023
  • Renaissance Hotels will debut a new 211-guest room property in the heart of Harlem above the Apollo's Victoria Theater, which is currently undergoing an expansion.

  • Located in the heart of the City, this new 661-room hotel will be the global debut and flagship for Hilton's newest lifestyle hotel brand.   • The Hispanic Society Museum & Library reopened the doors of its Main Building after six years of renovations and infrastructural improvements. Since 1904, the museum has been the home to over 750,000 objects including rare books and masterpieces from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries.
• Armstrong Corona Campus | Corona, Queens | Summer 2023
  • After undergoing a physical and programmatic expansion, the Armstrong Corona Campus, formerly known as the Louis Armstrong House, will debut a new cultural center with an interactive exhibit, archival collections, a 75-seat performance venue and store, all dedicated to celebrating and preserving the life and legacy of the legendary jazz musician Louis Armstrong.

  • Projected to open this September, the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC) will be home for emerging and established artists in theater, music, opera, dance, film and media. The PAC will celebrate life and humanity and become a cultural destination in Lower Manhattan.
• 100th Anniversary of Museum of the City of New York | East Harlem, Manhattan | 2023
  • The Museum of the City New York celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The museum has amassed a collection of over 750,000 objects including photographs, prints, costumes, paintings and more to celebrate, document and interpret the City's past, present and soon-to-be-announced future.
• Apollo Performing Arts Center | Harlem, Manhattan | 2023
  • The iconic theater is expanding for the first time in its history with the Victoria Theater Redevelopment Project that will introduce two new stages, creating an arts campus in Harlem.
• 75th Anniversary of the Ukrainian Institute of America | Upper East Side, Manhattan | 2023
  • The nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the art, music and literature of Ukraine and the Ukrainian diaspora is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2023.
• Lefferts Historic House Museum | Prospect Park, Brooklyn | 2023
  • The 18th-century farmhouse and NYC landmark Lefferts Historic House Museum continues its restoration. Reopening in 2023, the museum will present free pilot exhibits and programs that engage with the legacies of Indigenous dispossession and enslavement in Brooklyn.
• 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop | Citywide | 2023/2024
  • This year marks the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop music, founded in the Bronx on August 11, 1973, when Clive Campbell–better known as DJ Kool Herc–spun records at his sister's birthday party. Throughout the year, the City will celebrate with a lineup of soon-to-be announced events celebrating hip-hop.

• Universal Hip Hop Museum | South Bronx | 2024
  • Located just south of Yankee Stadium, this space will pay homage to the South Bronx's rich culture and history as the birthplace of hip-hop.
• Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center | West Village, Manhattan | 2024
  • The first visitor center within the National Park System dedicated to LGBTQ+ history will open in New York City in 2024. The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center will honor and explore the history of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and will be located at a storefront in Greenwich Village, next door to the historic Stonewall Inn.
• The American LGBTQ+ Museum | Upper West Side, Manhattan | 2026
  • The New-York Historical Society will incorporate a museum dedicated to LGBTQ+ history. Slated to open in 2024, The American LGBTQ+ Museum will be NYC's first museum dedicated to showcasing global, national and local LGBTQ+ history and culture.

  • The This Is New York: 100 Years of the City in Art and Pop Culture exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York will explore how the City has served as a muse for storytelling over the past century. Through a variety of mediums such as film, music, literature and visual arts, the exhibit presents a diverse and engaging portrayal of NYC. The exhibition is organized around different settings within the City, highlighting its streets, parks, restaurants and neighborhoods, and showcasing both the significant transformations and timeless themes that have influenced the narratives surrounding New York.

• Gardens & Works by Ebony G. Patterson at New York Botanical Garden | The Bronx | May 27–September 17, 2023
  • On May 27, the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) will launch an exhibition highlighting the work of celebrated contemporary artist Ebony G. Patterson.   • This exhibition will examine and celebrate more than 50 years of Shelley Niro's paintings, photographs, films and more. Filled with humor and references to pop culture, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the artist's timeless cultural knowledge and generational history of her Six Nations Kanyen'kehá:ka (Mohawk) community.
• New Photography 2023: Kelani Abass, Akinbode Akinbiyi, Yagazie Emezi, Amanda Iheme, Abraham Oghobase, Karl Ohiri, Logo Oluwamuyiw at Museum of Modern Art | Midtown Manhattan | May 28–September 16, 2023
  • The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is celebrating the gallery presentation return of its beloved series, New Photography for the first time since 2018. The new exhibition will explore the photographic work of seven artists united by their critical use of photography and their ties to the artistic scene in Lagos, Nigeria. This is also the museum's first group exhibition in its history engaging in the work of living West African photographers.
